Commercial Leadership Development Program

Commercial Leadership Development Program (CLDP)

CLDP provides recent advanced-degree recipients with a path to a successful career. Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. and Ortho Clinical Diagnostics have created the CLDP for qualified candidates looking to immerse themselves in marketing and product development.

Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. develops and markets innovative products for minimally invasive surgical procedures. Ortho Clinical Diagnostics provides solutions for early screening and detection of diseases.

The Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. program is available in the United States only, while the Ortho Clinical Diagnostics program is available to participants worldwide.

 Program Benefits

  • CLDP allows participants to engage in a broad range of marketing and product development-related assignments, including creation and execution of professional and consumer advertising campaigns, supervising third-party vendors and advertising agencies, sales and competitive analysis, and management of primary research projects.
  • Participants in CLDP at Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. will be responsible for one primary project at any given time, but will typically be asked to work with teams that are supporting other projects. This gives the participant excellent exposure to the various roles, positions, and responsibilities for marketing operations.
  • Participants will have an opportunity to gain a high-level understanding of the Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. business and its various products and facets, interact with management, and have the chance to make a measurable impact upon the business units with which they work.
  • The Ortho Clinical Diagnostics CLDP is a global program, with individually tailored assignments. This approach allows participants acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding of the commercial business, interact with management, and visibly demonstrate their leadership capabilities.
  • Participants in CLDP at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics have the opportunity to take on challenging assignments designed to deliver measurable and visible results. Assignments are matched to the participant’s business and career goals. Disciplines include marketing research, brand management, sales, business development, product development and launch, and more.

The Rotational Experience

  • Participants in the 18-month program at Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. will have the prospects for multiple networking opportunities during the program as they rotate through a variety of functional roles. Departmental rotations in this program include Product Marketing, Procedure Marketing, Global Marketing, Business Development, Franchise Development, among others.
  • CLDP at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics is approximately three years in length. This will include two unique rotations and a sales rotation. Rotations are project-based and highly dependent on the participant’s needs and areas of greatest potential impact. The length of the rotations and the completion of the program depend on the associate successfully demonstrating leadership while achieving defined business objectives. Participants will make cross-functional rotational moves that may require regional and/or global relocation.

Training

  • A variety of training opportunities are provided to Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. program participants, both at the beginning and through the duration of the CLDP experience. These include a “Marketing Mastery” series and hands-on, in-depth training of the use of medical devices in our product laboratories.
  • Participants in CLDP at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics will create a personal development and training plan based on their strengths, needs, and long-term objectives.

Coaching and Development

  • All CLDP participants, regardless of business affiliation, will be assigned a Peer Mentor upon joining the program, to advise and coach them throughout the program timeline. This mentor will serve as a valuable resource and guide for you during the program.
  • In addition, ad hoc guidance will be provided by manager-level colleagues and field sales personnel during the course of the program.
  • Based on your individual experience and objectives, you’ll help create your own Career Development Plan to outline future opportunities for you in your chosen field.
  • CLDP participants will receive ongoing performance assessment and feedback throughout the Ortho Clinical Diagnostics program.

Program Completion and Post-Program Expectations

  • Upon completion of CLDP at Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc., successful participants will have the opportunity to secure a full-time Product Director position within one of the commercial organizations.
  • Upon completion of CLDP at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, successful participants will be ready to assume a leadership/manager-level position.

Qualities We Seek in CLDP Candidates

  • Recent graduate of a full-time MBA program (between December 2008 and August 2009).
  • Three years experience in marketing, sales, L&A, franchise development, finance, or professional medical education (4+ years is preferred).
  • Strong demonstrated leadership and success in community or work initiatives are a plus.
  • Abilities to work well in a collaborative environment, think strategically, multitask and prioritize.
  • For CLDP at Ethicon Endo-Surgey, Inc., US citizenship or permanent residency is necessary.
  • For CLDP at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics the ability and willingness to relocate based on rotational moves is necessary.
